As a representative of the Czech patient organization, Cerebrum was invited to this international conference, where our director Magdalena Pohnanová took part.

Conference of the Confederation of Industry and Transport of the Czech Republic – January 14, 2025

“Employment of People with Hidden Disabilities” was the topic presented by our director Magdalena Pohnanová at the Confederation of Industry and Trade conference on “Employment of People Affected by Health Conditions.”

Two-thirds of survivors live with a hidden disability, and it is crucial to open up this conversation more widely.

During 2022 and 2023, we ran several educational campaigns that were targeted towards the economically active middle generation and aimed to draw the public’s attention to the risks associated with stroke and head injuries, as well as to raise awareness of the consequences of brain injuries and rehabilitation options.

Campaign “MozekP3: prevence – pomoc – péče” (“Brain P3: prevention – help – care”)

The campaign focused on the prevention of stroke, as well as other types of acquired brain damage. The campaign also included media-based communication (television programs, spots, printed and online articles, social networks), including active participation in educational events in Prague and the Central Bohemia region. The result of the campaign included an analysis of the research on the risk of stroke and the level of stress experienced by the aforementioned population group.

Visitors could try out:

  • Roughly assess the risk of stroke, including pressure measurement
  • Take a stress test
  • Try physical exercises using balance mats and therabands
  • View and try handicap aids with an interactive quiz
  • Practice first aid on a resuscitation dummy
  • Fold the anatomical model of the brain into the correct shape

Campaign “Chraň svou hlavu v davu” (“Protect your head in the crowd”)

The goal of the project was the implementation of a nationwide awareness campaign focused on the risks of brain disease. Through this project, we appealed primarily to athletes and road bicyclists to protect themselves with protective equipment against head injuries, which are absolutely necessary, because in today’s era of shared bikes and electric scooters, the number of head injuries caused mainly by the absence of a helmet is increasing, and these cases often end in disability .

The public was also made aware of the specific effects of brain damage on individual and family life. We organized the production and broadcasting of a TV program and an audiovisual commercial, which were broadcast on TV Praha and TV Brno. People with acquired brain damage were involved in the project, and conveyed their own experiences with brain injury.

Visitors could try out:

  • Sports helmets, and had the opportunity to learn how to properly adjust and fasten it
  • Get advice on how to choose a quality helmet that will ensure maximum protection and comfort as well as other safety features
  • Watch videos showing how a watermelon lands after falling to the ground with and without a helmet
  • Fill in a quiz to test out your knowledge about the issue of head injuries
  • Try to fold the anatomical model of the brain into the correct shape
  • Learn more about prevention, help and care after head injuries and other brain diseases
